F.LLI BERTONI, world leader in nitrogen-pressurised containers

When the second generation drives growth

F.lli Bertoni. Nitrogen-pressurised container for transporting and storing high-value machinery

Founded in 1967 by Luigi and Achille Bertoni, F.lli Bertoni has been run since 1997 by cousins Massimo and Alessandro Bertoni. It is a successful example of generational handover, with professional management and a global strategy.

Starting from naval maintenance work inside the Italian Navy Arsenal in La Spezia, the second generation focused on process and product innovation, creating advanced industrialised processes. The ability to deliver turnkey products across the whole production process – design, plate cutting, fabrication, surface treatment, machining – helps its clients increase efficiency and cut resources and lead times. One example is GE General Electric, one of the world's leading companies, which uses its range of nitrogen-pressurised containers to transport aeronautical equipment, in compliance with DNV standards and with greater logistics safety. These patented products are cited as case studies in scientific publications of the Italian Ministry of Defence in Rivista Marittima and of NATO's Rapid Reaction Corps in Italy in the magazine Everywhere Rapidly. For the Fincantieri group it has produced high-value components such as stabiliser lines for cruise ships and the trim rudder for the Italian-French FREMM frigate series. It is a partner of OTO Melara, now Leonardo-Finmeccanica, for which it has built the armoured turrets of the "Centauro" and "Freccia" vehicles and the 76 and 127 mm suspended structures installed on navy ships around the world. Its clients also include Ansaldo Energia, Japan's Hitachi, Germany's Voith Turbo, GE Thermodyn France, GE Energy Switzerland, Rolls Royce and others.
